Fransje Killaars

Textile Colour Fields

Images for this exhibition

The dazzling installations created by Fransje Killaars (b. 1959) are like three-dimensional paintings composed of hand-woven rugs, fabrics and skeins of wool in every colour of the rainbow. Textiles are the main material of her unique oeuvre. Killaars is fascinated by the power of colour, the relationship between man and textiles, and the close connection between textiles and everyday life. Through its unusual combinations of colour and material, her work dislocates space and changes the way people see things. In addition to autonomous installations, Killaars also produces commissioned public art works, such as large-scale installations and murals. These are composed of the horizontal layers of fabric that are typical of her work and which are inspired by books of fabric samples.
